Community Resource Unit

The mission of the Community Resource Unit is to serve the community and the Police Department by developing and implementing programs to prevent crime, reduce the fear of crime, promote safety, and support officers in their community policing activities.

Services

The Community Resource Unit offers a variety of services designed for both private citizens and local businesses, including:

  • Active Threat presentations
  • Anti-Robbery training
  • Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
  • Neighborhood Watch
  • Safe Community programs
  • Security surveys

The unit builds relationships with local businesses, service providers, and citizens to share crime prevention information and promote safety.

Former Homeless Outreach Team

The Community Resource Unit has absorbed the City’s former Homeless Outreach Team, providing assistance and connecting the local homeless population with resources such as housing or substance abuse treatment. The unit also strives to reduce the calls for service often associated with the homeless population.

Downtown Development Authority (DDA)

In partnership with the Downtown Development Authority (DDA), the Community Resource Unit also dedicates two positions to Downtown patrol. These positions provide a visible presence in the downtown area and strive to build relationships with business owners and vendors to partner in keeping the area safe, clean, and a draw for residents and visitors to our community.
