Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department and deputies with the Mesa County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Zuni Drive and Laguna Drive for a report of a shooting which occurred at approximately 12:30pm on 06/05/2023. Officers found an adult female in a driveway with an obvious gunshot wound. Officers performed life-saving measures until the Grand Junction Fire Department could transport her to St. Mary’s Hospital, where she remains in stable condition. Officers located one adult male subject on the 2700 block of Laguna Drive and continued their search for an outstanding subject in the incident. The investigation continued through the night.
At approximately, 7:45pm, on 06/05/2023, Grand Junction Police officers located the outstanding subject, Nicholas Engeman (age 41), and took him into custody on three outstanding warrants. Engeman was charged with additional charges related to this incident and remanded to the Mesa County Detention Facility. Those charges include:
- Menacing
- Attempted Aggravated Robbery
- First Degree Kidnapping
- First Degree Burglary
- Possession of Weapons by Previous Offenders
- Violation of a Protection Order
This remains an active investigation, with criminal charges for involved parties still pending.
Orchard Mesa Middle School was placed into a shelter-in-place for a short time. The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident and there is no further information available at this time.
