Officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a burglary alarm at the Museum of Western Colorado early Sunday morning, 07/16/23, at approximately 3:45 AM. When officers arrived at the east door of the museum, a white adult male opened the door, saw the officers, and fled on foot. The suspect dropped several items on the ground as he ran from police, which were later recovered and found to be stolen museum items. Grand Junction Police officers detained the suspect a few blocks away from the museum on the 500 block of Colorado Avenue. The male, Jeremy Anderson, age 28, was taken into custody and charged with the following:
- 2nd Degree Burglary
- Theft from a Building
- 2nd Degree Criminal Tampering
- Obstructing a Peace Officer
- Resisting Arrest
- Failure to Appear Warrant
The Grand Junction Police Department believes this to be an isolated incident with no ongoing threat to the community. This incident remains under investigation and there is no further information available at this time.
