[ARCHIVED] City of Grand Junction Adds Improvements at Dos Rios Park

The goat vegetation management program resumes in Grand Junction beginning today along the riverfront at Dos Rios Park. In addition, a beach allowing easy access to the river is being constructed.

There will be about 400 goats grazing between the edge of the Colorado River and the Riverfront Trail. The goats will be provided shelter during inclement weather as well as fresh drinking water. The goats will be contained by an electric fence managed by a shepherd and herded to a safe place each evening.

As part of the improvements at Dos Rios Park, the city has hired local landscape contractor Clarke and Company to create a beach at this location of the riverfront. The beach will connect users from the river to the park via a broad stairway that will also provide easy access to the Riverfront Trail. Construction on the beach has begun and the design for the Dos Rios Splash Park is also progressing with construction on that feature planned to start in early 2024.
