In recognition of the indispensable role played by law enforcement records and data personnel in maintaining public safety, the Grand Junction Police Department is proud to announce Law Enforcement Records Personnel Week, which will be observed from November 6 to November 10, 2023.
The annual Law Enforcement Records Personnel Week provides an opportunity to express gratitude and appreciation for the dedicated professionals who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure the integrity, archiving, accessibility, and security of crucial law enforcement records in accordance with federal and state regulations. Their importance cannot be overstated, as they perform a wide range of essential tasks that directly impact public safety and the justice system. Each of the 10 Records Specialists for the Grand Junction Police Department is master certified by the Colorado Certified Records Network and have expert knowledge of the Colorado Open Records Laws. This team processes an average of 10,000 cases per year, and in 2022, scanned over 31,000 images and processed almost 5,000 open records requests.
These unsung heroes are the backbone of the justice system, helping law enforcement agencies maintain accurate, confidential, and timely information that is critical for solving crimes and protecting communities. Their dedication and attention to detail are vital for the safety and well-being of the community they serve. Please join the Grand Junction Police Department in recognizing the important work its Records Specialists do for the community today and every day.
