[ARCHIVED] City Announces the 20 Court Lincoln Park Pickleball Complex Open For Play

20 Court Lincoln Park Pickleball Complex

Renner Sports, the court contractor working on the Pickleball and Tennis Expansion project, completed work at Lincoln Park so that all 20 pickleball courts are now open for players and will be playable this winter. A few final finishing touches will be applied by Renner including a final coat on the courts in the spring of 2024.

Improvements made at three city parks include:

  • Lincoln Park now has 20 dedicated pickleball courts
  • Pine Ridge Park courts were resurfaced to improve the playability of the courts
  • Canyon View Park tennis now has LED lighting on the original 12 courts as well as four additional tennis courts are scheduled to be complete by the end of the year, bringing the total number of tennis courts to 16.
Formerly, Lincoln Park was home to four regulation pickleball courts and four non-regulation pickleball courts. With the completion of this project, a total of 20 regulation pickleball courts, all now lit with LED lighting, are now open and available to handle the exploding demand for pickleball courts.

Another major improvement for Pickleball was recently completed with the resurfacing of the courts at Pine Ridge Park. This includes four dedicated pickleball and one tennis that has lines painted to allow for two pickleball courts for a total of six.

The final major component of the City’s Pickleball and Tennis Expansion project is the replacement of the four tennis courts at Lincoln Park with four new courts at Canyon View. Some additional work needs to be done on four of the courts, which will be complete by the end of year. The 12 existing tennis courts at Canyon View are now equipped with LED lighting for players to use after dark. In the spring, landscaping will be installed and the undeveloped gravel lot, north of the new tennis courts and south of baseball fields, have been improved for parking and parking blocks are installed.

“Tremendous positive feedback has been received from users, especially Grand Valley Football, who depend on this parking area for their robust program. This is one of many user groups with hundreds and even thousands of participants that depend on Canyon View to offer the service they provide” said Parks and Recreation Director, Ken Sherbenou.

The Tennis and Pickleball expansion project were undertaken by the City in close partnership with the tennis community, represented by Mesa County Tennis Association, and the pickleball community, represented by the Western Slope Pickleball Club. A ribbon cutting will be planned for next spring at Lincoln Park pickleball courts to celebrate the completion of the project.
