Seven City of Grand Junction employees tested positive for COVID-19 this week. These employees are currently quarantining as part of the recovery process. Any additional staff member who may have been exposed are also quarantining.
All City employees monitor symptoms daily and track symptoms at the beginning of every working shift. In addition to daily symptom monitoring and tracking, in-person interactions are limited, and masks are required during in-person interactions and while working inside. The City developed a mask policy that went into effect April 13, 2020 following the Governor’s guidelines.
The recent change to the COVID-19 Orange: High Risk category will not have any effect on City services. To learn more about the current status of Mesa County, please visit Mesa County Public Health’s website. As a reminder, residents can find information about the City’s relief and response efforts, the status of City facilities, and a full list of services available virtually or via the telephone on the City’s website.
As part of the State’s vaccination plan, some City employees became eligible to receive the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine this week. These employees are first responders and workers who maintain critical infrastructure such as water and wastewater. While the acceptance of the vaccine is voluntary, those who do receive the vaccine aid in ensuring that there are no impacts to the delivery of critical City services. To date, there have been no instances of transmission between City employees or between City employees and members of the public. To slow the spread of disease, Mesa County Public Health continues to ask all Mesa County residents to continue physical distancing, mask-wearing, and limiting social interactions with those outside your immediate household until a vaccine is widely available and able to be distributed to all residents of Mesa County.
The City of Grand Junction remains committed to providing services to the community and will continue to modify services as appropriate in response to the pandemic. The City will continue to work with Mesa County Public Health to monitor the situation. The health and safety of the public and staff remains a top priority.
