The Grand Junction Police Department responded to a shooting that occurred shortly before 10 p.m. on Tuesday night. Numerous cartridge casings were located in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 1800 Block of Main Street and there was damage to the building consistent with bullet holes. While no suspects or victims were located at the scene, officers were notified that two victims with gunshot wounds had arrived at St. Mary's Hospital in a private vehicle shortly after this incident occurred. Their injuries are considered serious, but non-life-threatening.
Investigation into this incident has resulted in the arrest of two suspects: a 17-year-old juvenile male and 18-year-old, Carter Bieber. Bieber has been booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility and the juvenile male was remanded to the Grand Mesa Youth Services Center. Both suspects are being charged with the following:
- Attempted murder in the first degree (F2)
Initial investigation indicated that three parties were involved in the incident and that all three parties discharged a firearm at the scene. Detectives have been unsuccessful in contacting the third party or locating an additional firearm. The investigation remains ongoing, but we ask that anyone with information regarding the incident, information about the third party involved, or who may have captured security camera footage that could aid in the investigation, to call non-emergency dispatch at 970-242-6707. Detectives believe the firearm that was used during the incident may have been discarded somewhere along an unknown route from the 1800 block of Main Street to St. Mary’s Hospital. If you locate any weapon of suspicion, please report it to 911 immediately.
