[ARCHIVED] Spring Cleanup by the Numbers

Spring cleanup hauler

Since the early 1900’s the City of Grand Junction has conducted an annual cleanup program to help residents get rid of yard waste and unusable household items. It is the City’s most popular residential program.

This year’s Spring Cleanup started on Monday, April 5 and concluded on the afternoon of Thursday, April 15.

The total volume of materials collected required 440 40 cubic yard roll-off containers hauled to the landfill. The total tonnage collected decreased this year by 13% for a total of 2,200 tons collected and landfilled.

The annual City program required 4,770 working hours, completed by 53 individuals. Staff was divided into ten crews of four and other staff were located at transfer stations loading the 40 cubic yard roll-off containers with front end loaders that were then hauled to the dump.
