At 11:45 Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of smoke and flames coming from the roof of a commercial building on the 400 block of Park Drive with people evacuating the building. Upon seeing the fire, a nearby Western Construction crew left their work site, got extinguishers from the building, and were able to put out the majority of the fire with fire extinguishers. At the scene, GJFD crews found the building fully evacuated with light smoke and flames coming from the roof. GJFD crews were able to get to the roof and put out the remaining fire and extensions into the wall and roof of the building. Crews also worked to clear smoke from and adjacent commercial office.
GJFD responded with Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Truck 6, Ambulance 3, Ambulance 6, a Battalion Chief, three Administrative Chiefs, two investigators, and a PIO.
