[ARCHIVED] Help Us Find Stolen Pet #GVCopBeat

small dog

The Grand Junction Police Department is seeking assistance to find a dog who was stolen from the owner earlier this month.

On June 6th, officers with the GJPD were dispatched to a report of a stolen dog.  The owner of the dog stated that a known female had taken the victim’s dog without her permission the night before and the victim was asking for assistance in having the dog returned.  Officers were able to contact the suspect who indicated that she didn’t believe the owner of the dog was taking good care of the pet and had taken the dog and rehomed it with someone else.  The suspect was arrested and released on a summons for theft.

Because the suspect in this case has refused to tell officers who now has the dog, we’re seeking the assistance of the public to help locate the pet.  Included here are photos of the dog, who was allegedly dropped off to a new home on or around June 6th by the adult female suspect in this case.  If you believe you have this dog, or if you have any information that would assist in locating the dog and reuniting the pet with the rightful owner, please call non-emergency dispatch at 970.242.6707, reference GJPD case number 21-28201.  If you would prefer to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at www.241STOP.com.

If you believe that an animal is not being adequately cared for, or is being abused or neglected, we urge you to contact Mesa County Animal Services.  They are the investigating authority in these matters and their staff will follow up to ensure the well-being of the animal.  Mesa County Animal Services can be reached at 970.242.4646, or you can email them at AC.dispatch@mesacounty.us.
