GJFD Responds to Home Fire on Acoma Dr.

GJFD Captain Jamie Kavanaugh

At 7:39 PM Wednesday evening the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a residential fire on the 300 block of Acoma Drive. The reporting party indicated that the fire was burning in the adjoining unit of a duplex and that they could hear what sounded like explosions. Engine 4 was the first unit on scene and reported a working structure fire at the address with fire venting from a window in the home. Crews entered the home with zero visibility due to heavy smoke, located the fire and extinguished it. Fire crews worked to remove smoldering contents from the home to ensure the fire would not rekindle. Two adults were displaced by the fire. One occupant was evaluated at the address and a second was transported to a nearby hospital. Two dogs died in the home. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.

GJFD responded with Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Ambulance 1, Ambulance 4, and Battalion 1. The Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sherriff’s Office responded to assist with scene safety.
