At 9:37 PM Sunday evening the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a fire in an apartment building on the 500 block of Highway 50. Calls to 9-1-1 from the address indicated that multiple units in the building were on fire. Engine 4 was the first on scene and confirmed a working structure fire at the address. Crews worked quickly to extinguish fires inside separate apartments and to prevent flames from spreading to nearby buildings. After the fire was out, crews searched the address and found one adult dead inside the building. Six adults were able to evacuate without injury. The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation.
GJFD responded with Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 5, Ambulance 1, Ambulance 4, Battalion 1, and an Administrative Chief. The Grand Junction Police Department responded to assist with the investigation and scene safety. The American Red Cross responded to assist those displaced by the fire.
