Early Friday evening a Grand Junction Fire Department Wildland Team deployed with Brush 6 to the March Airforce Base in southern California for severe fire conditions. Today the crew was assigned to the southeast division of the San Bernardino National Forest where they will provide initial fire attack on any fire starts in their division. The goal of this type of assignment is to quickly extinguish fires so they do not burn out of control during serious fire conditions. The team could be gone for up to two weeks.
The knowledge and skills gained by the wildland team on deployments like this are brought back to GJFD to help the department better protect local people and property from wildfire.
