At 9:35 PM last night the Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a report of an attic fire in a home on the 2900 block of B ½ Road. A resident called 9-1-1 and reported the upper level of the home filling with smoke. Crews entered the home to locate access to the fire and extinguish it but were forced to transition to exterior firefighting as the flames grew rapidly and the structure became unsafe for crews working inside. Crews worked on the outside of the home to prevent the fire from spreading beyond the property and keep equipment functioning in the cold weather conditions. Three adults were able to evacuate without injury. The origin and cause of the fire is under investigation.
GJFD responded with Truck 1, Truck 6, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 5, Ambulance 4, and Battalion 1. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist traffic control and scene safety. The American Red Cross responded to assist those displaced by the fire.
