City Finds Success in Grant Awards

The City of Grand Junction is grateful to fund a portion of its operations through grants offered to local governments by our state and federal partners. The City funds the services it provides to residents through the annual budget process. Throughout the year, additional revenues in form of grants are assessed and applied for based on project priorities established in the budget and community need. Grants awarded to the City are then used to supplement these planned projects and can be leveraged to expand or expedite services and programs for residents.

Grant funding is critical to maintaining sustainable funding of local government operations and it enhances the City’s ability to provide quality services needed in the community. To maximize success in securing various grants, dedicated City staff identify and prepare grant applications that are competitive for the reviewing agency. A grant administrator position was added in 2021 and another is included in the 2022 budget. Recent grant awards include:

  • FEMA Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) Grant - $5,916,309 over the next three years
  • FEMA Assistance to Firefighters (AFG) Grant - $207,774
  • Employer-Based Child Care Facility Grant - $800,000
  • Bureau of Reclamation WaterSMART Drought Resiliency Project Grant - $300,000
  • Innovative Affordable Housing Strategies, Planning Grant - $85,000
  • Victim Assistance and Law Enforcement Grant - $18,646

Funds from grants will be used by the City of Grand Junction to support critical services in the community. Learn more about the City, including grants and the budget at www.gjcity.org.
