In early 2020, a public meeting was held at Redlands Middle School regarding public art in the Redlands Parkway/C340 roundabout where approximately 110 attendees reviewed 8 concepts. The majority of attendees supported the theme of Bighorn Sheep to celebrate the presence of bighorn sheep in the Colorado National Monument and surrounding area.
The Arts and Culture Commission then submitted a call for artists and selected an experienced local artist. The City is funding $100,000 of the approved design with additional elements to be included if fundraising is successful.
The Arts and Culture Commission, working with the Grand Valley Parks and Recreation Foundation, is soliciting donations to fund an additional element to this installation totaling $36,755. The additional element, the ram in the center of the roundabout, will be installed along with the mother and baby ram and the sparring rams if funds can be raised through donations.
Donations may be made at the Grand Valley Parks and Recreation Foundation (GVPARF): www.gvparf.org. All funds donated to GVPARF are being designated for this project.
