City of Grand Junction crews will stabilize a small portion of the bank adjacent to the Riverfront Trail between Broadway and the Ice Rink early next week. This work will help protect the slope from further degradation and potential failure and help protect a compressed natural gas line adjacent to the trail.
In order to safely conduct the stabilization work, the Riverfront Trail will be closed from Broadway to just north of the Ice Rink on Monday, May 9 and Tuesday, May 10. A detour route will be posted to the shared-use path adjacent to the Riverside Parkway.
A natural river channel is especially susceptible to erosion during peak flows which occur during spring runoff. While projected peak flows will be well below average this year, this section of the bank is still in jeopardy necessitating the work.
