The City of Grand Junction is undertaking a significant effort to update the City’s Zoning and Development Code (Z&DC). The update will work to ensure the City’s development regulations support and implement the recently adopted One Grand Junction Comprehensive Plan. The key goals of the project are to:
- Update the City’s regulations to better reflect the key principles and policies described in the 2020 One Grand Junction Comprehensive Plan, especially those Key Principles related to Responsible and Managed Growth and Strong Neighborhoods and Housing Choices.
- Achieve a higher level of efficiency, consistency, and simplicity.
- Identify constraints and opportunities for affordable and attainable housing, consistent with those identified in the City’s recently adopted Housing Strategies.
The Zoning and Development Code update process will be completed in two distinct phases over the next year, beginning with a Phase 1 Code Assessment Report that identifies needed updates to the Code, and followed by the substantive revisions to the Z&DC in Phase 2.
The Phase 1 Code Assessment Report is now available for review online and the City welcomes public comment and feedback. Comments on the assessment will be used to inform the drafting of the updated Zoning and Development Code. The City of Grand Junction invites the community to attend a public discussion session regarding the Phase 1 Code Assessment Report. The first meeting will be held June 17 from noon to 1:30 p.m. at the City Hall Auditorium.
