Visit Grand Junction (Visit GJ), the City of Grand Junction’s Destination Marketing Organization (DMO), celebrates designation by Kiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine as the “second best place in the country to retire” which was released to newsstands on July 6, 2022.

The article published in the August 2022 issue, lists Grand Junction as the second-best place to retire in the article “7 Standout Places to Retire”, which featured the Colorado National Monument, Grand Mesa, James M. Robb Colorado River State Park, Downtown GJ, Avalon Theatre, Museum of the West, Western Colorado Botanical Gardens, Colorado Mesa University, and St. Mary’s Medical Center. In addition, outdoor activities in Grand Junction were highlighted including rafting, skiing, shopping, and golfing. The article has a print, online, email, and social media presence of 18.5 million affluent households.

Visit GJ successfully also secured a full-page ad about Grand Junction on the back cover of the edition. Grand Junction was also chosen to appear on the cover of the magazine and images that Visit GJ proposed were included in the one-page article on page 55.

Elizabeth Fogarty, Director at Visit Grand Junction, shared that “Although destinations cannot directly control these lists, they are a result of a city that is gaining recognition, predominantly through positive media placements - essentially raised visibility that Visit GJ has been garnering through articles appearing in a variety of media outlets.”

“From a marketing strategy standpoint,” Fogarty shared, “Visit GJ is creating a foundation of experiential articles through public relations channels focused on tourism. When a city’s brand begins to gain recognition, the next step is often a “best place to retire,” followed by “best place to live.” That is the natural progression of Visit GJ’s public relations and advertising strategy for Grand Junction.”  Fogarty added, “this is also indicative of the great work local organizations and businesses are accomplishing.”

About Visit Grand Junction ( – Visit Grand Junction, a Destination Marketing Organization, is a department of the City of Grand Junction. Visitor spending accounts for one-third of the city’s sales tax revenue, which provides funding for public safety, infrastructure, and other city services.
