GJ Opens Online Survey as Pedestrian and Bike Plan Development Begins

In order to develop the Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan and update the Transportation Engineering and Design Standards, the city will be seeking input from the community in a number of interactive ways. Plans currently include hosting focus groups, pop-up events, open houses, and gathering input through an online survey and an interactive map. The Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan online survey will be available from August 26- Oct. 30, 2022

In addition, the first public open house is planned for Wednesday, September 14 at the Lincoln Park Barn, 910 North 12th Street from 5:30 – 7 p.m. This fun, family-oriented event will include a bike rodeo/slow race, a bike decorating station, bike registration with the Grand Junction Police Department, door prizes, and refreshments. The purpose of the meeting is to gain a better understanding of when and where people currently walk and bike in Grand Junction and where they would like to do so in the future. Staff also hopes to learn about any safety concerns and other potential barriers to walking and biking in the city. Other upcoming event dates will be shared on social media and the city’s website.

Once complete, the Pedestrian and Bicycle Plan will articulate a vision of the city’s future pedestrian and bicycle network in order to establish Grand Junction as a comfortable and welcoming place for people walking, rolling, and biking throughout the city. The plan will also include strategies to help the city identify ways to implement the vision. The development of the overall plan is expected to wrap up in May of 2023.
