[ARCHIVED] City Celebrates 25th Anniversary of Canyon View Park

Canyon View Park Playground

The City of Grand Junction will celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Canyon View Park at 730 24 Road on September 15, 2022, at 2 p.m. in the Grand Shelter. The public is invited to attend this event, which will include remarks from Mayor Stout, along with the presentation of Community Champion Awards, exuberant kids from Caprock Academy, and free ice cream.

Canyon View Park is a 110-acre park with one of the largest playgrounds in Colorado, more than three and a half miles of sidewalk and walking trails, and numerous soccer, softball, football, and baseball fields. The park also includes a volleyball court, basketball courts, and 12 tennis courts (expanding to 16 in 2023). The park was first conceptualized in 1995 and the project broke ground in 1996. The first phase of development was completed in 1997 and the second phase was completed in 2004. On an average weekend in the spring and fall, there are roughly 6,000 athletes and spectators visiting Canyon View Park.

Multiple organizations were integral in the funding of Canyon View Park including the Boettcher Foundation, Great Outdoor Colorado (GOCO), and the Gates Family Foundation. Additional funds were allocated to the City of Grand Junction for Parks and Recreation from the Colorado Lottery. With views of the Colorado National Monument, the Book Cliffs, and the Grand Mesa, Canyon View Park offers a unique experience to visitors of all age groups. Canyon View Park is located at 730 24 Road and can be easily seen and accessed from Interstate 70.
