At 11:04 PM Grand Junction Fire Department was dispatched to a residential structure fire on the 2800 block of Carter Lane. Callers to 9-1-1 indicated that a home was on fire with smoke and flames coming from the roof. Engine 4 arrived on the scene within five minutes and reported a single-story residential structure that was fully involved. Firefighters worked to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby structures and vehicles, and the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office began evacuating neighboring homes. Firefighters entered the home to search for possible occupants. GJFD crews were able to remove one person from the burning structure who was transported for medical care. A second resident was later confirmed to be deceased. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.
GJFD responded with GJFD responded with Ambulance 2, Ambulance 4, Ambulance 12, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Truck 1, and a Battalion Chief. Mesa County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist with scene safety and will be participating in the investigation.
