[ARCHIVED] City of Grand Junction Update on Cannabis Licensing Process

Cannabis Regulations

The process to determine licenses for Cannabis Retail stores and co-located Medical and Retail Cannabis stores in the City of Grand Junction is currently underway. The city clerk’s office received 47 applications prior to the deadline of June 8, 2022. The initial review of applications for completeness and code compliance was conducted by a committee consisting of city representatives.

“It is important to ensure the review and selection process is fair for all those who applied to participate in the lottery for a Cannabis license. In order to do that, we must allow enough time for our hearing officer to schedule and conduct the hearings for all the applicants,” stated Amy Phillips, city clerk.

The review and hearing process for the completed applications stands as follows:

  • 21 – Approved for the randomized selection process
  • 3 – Denied
  • 13 – Pending

Hearings are expected to continue through December and potentially into the first part of 2023. Once the hearing process is complete, a randomized selection process will be conducted to select the 10 applicants that will receive a license. Applicants receiving a license will have up to one year to open their store.
