At 2:22 AM on December 3rd, 2022, Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a building on fire behind a home on the 2800 Block of Unaweep Avenue. When crews arrived they found heavy smoke and flames coming from a barn on the property. No injuries have been reported for people or animals. Firefighters worked quickly to extinguish the flames and protect the home and other buildings on the property, but the barn and significant amounts of hay were destroyed due to the fire. Crews remained on the scene for several hours to ensure no hot spots remained. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.
GJFD responded with Ambulance 1, Ambulance 2, Ambulance 12, Truck 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Engine 4, Engine 5, Truck 6, and a Battalion Chief. Grand Junction Police Department and Mesa County Sheriff's Office also responded and assisted with traffic control and scene safety.
