The construction of Grand Junction Fire Department Station 8, located at 441 31 Road, is now complete. The Department hosted a hose uncoupling ceremony today, January 23rd, to officially put the station in-service. The new Fire Station 8 was built with funds from the first responder tax which was passed in 2019, the second of three total stations to be built, equipped, and staffed with those funds. The new facility has modern safety upgrades which include cancer prevention features found in other GJFD fire stations.
GJFD broke ground on the station on Match 31st, 2022. The Blythe Group designed the station and FCI has coordinated the project with over 20 subcontractors to complete the project in less than eight months. The 10,000 square foot station will be home to an engine and ambulance crew. In total, 21 employees will staff the station between the different crew shifts. The primary station area covers 18.73 square miles and serves nearly 14,600 people and 1,203 businesses.
