At 7:20 this morning Grand Junction Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire on the 1600 block of Rood Avenue. A passerby reported gray smoke coming from the roof of apartments near 17th Street and began knocking on doors to alert the residents. A small fire in a furnace room had spread smoke throughout the attic space of the apartment complex. Crews quickly located the fire and extinguished it and then checked all attic space to ensure that the fire had not spread. One person was transported for medical attention. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.

GJFD responded with a full structure assignment and the Grand Junction Police Department assisted with scene safety.
