The Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture is seeking submissions for the 10th annual Art Beat contest designed to support young artists in the Grand Junction area.
This year’s theme is “Fresh Eyes” and youth are encouraged to create an essay, lyrics, video, song, photography, short stories, original poems, drawings or other art forms to describe or portray an event that provided a new perspective or created a change of mind. A written component must be included with all submissions describing how the work relates to the theme. Submissions can be emailed to Marlene Godsey, Arts and Culture and Adult Programs coordinator at marleneg@gjcity.org. The deadline for submissions is March 1, 2023, at 5 p.m.
Since 2012, the Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture has reviewed hundreds of written works of art from Grand Junction area youth with topics ranging from creativity, music, and public art. The contest provides an opportunity for youth to share creatively within the community. The contest is divided into three grade categories: 3-5th grade; 6-8th grade; and 9-12th grade
Prizes will be awarded to winners in each category and the first place winners will be invited to share art pieces online and experience an on-air interview with KAFM Grand Junction community radio.
The Grand Junction Commission on Arts and Culture is dedicated to developing the quantity, quality, and affordability of arts and culture for the Grand Junction area.
