At 2:04 PM Grand Junction Fire Department responded to reports of a home fire on the 800 block of Independent Avenue. When crews arrived they found one mobile home with heavy fire that was spreading to a nearby home due to high winds. Crews were able to attack the fire at both homes and extinguish it. No one was inside the first home that caught fire, and two people were evacuated from the second home. Two people were medically evaluated and one was transported to a hospital. A third home sustained heat damage. Crews were able to save a rabbit and a bird from the first home that caught fire.
Three adults and two children are displaced from the first home that caught fire. Two adults and one child are displaced from the second home that caught fire. The American Red Cross has responded to assist all of them with recovery.
