On 04/09/2023, at approximately 1:45pm, officers with the Grand Junction Police Department responded to a panic alarm at O’Reilly Auto Parts on 2844 North Avenue. An adult male, later identified as Peter Grimes (age 34), had threatened employees and customers with a hammer before getting into his car. It was also reported that when Mr. Grimes returned to his car, he drove his vehicle in a reckless manner, threatening to drive into the store several times before leaving the area at a high rate of speed.
Officers contacted Mr. Grimes shortly afterwards in the 500 block of 28 ¼ Rd where he was taken into custody without incident. Mr. Grimes was booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on the following charges:
- Attempted Vehicular Assault While Driving in a Reckless Manner
- Menacing Real/Simulated Weapon
- Reckless Driving

This is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no ongoing danger to the community. This case remains under investigation and there is no further information at this time.
